Synopsis 

Shen Jin, the unfavoured daughter of a concubine of the royal family, is married off, sight unseen, to the notorious "demon" General Chu Xiu Ming in her older sister's place when her older sister refuses to honour the imperial marriage decree.  

At first, neither Shen Jin nor the General wish to have anything to do with the other, but love blossoms and they settle down to domestic happiness out at the borders where General Chu Xu Ming is stationed.  

The two eventually return to the capital city to investigate the corruption which has led to moneys for their troops being withheld.  But as they get closer to unraveling the truth, Shen Jin and her family are imprisoned when she incurs the emperor's wrath, and General Chu Xiu Ming must brave the powers of the palace itself to rescue his bride.
