Synopsis:

The Sleepless Princess is about 9th Princess Xu Chu Yue, who can't sleep at night and the dashing, outwardly aloof General Xue Yao, who is investigating the cause of his older brother's death.  Their two worlds collide when the Emperor decrees their marriage.

It's not that Xu Chu Yue doesn't want to sleep at night - there is a reason why she can't.

When she was a child, a magical rock got absorbed into her being, meaning that when she falls asleep at night she has prophetic dreams (nightmares, really) that come true.  If she tries to change fate as foreseen in the dream, she turns into one of the animals of the Chinese Zodiac for a stretch of time.  There are only 12 Zodiac creatures however and she is on the 10th transformation. When she reaches the 12th, she will be doomed to sleep forever...

So Xu Chu Yue spends her nights reading novels to while away the tedious hours and her days sleeping when she can.  She dreams of freedom and leaving the Palace, and is supported in this by her "imperial younger brother" Prince Xu Xing Xhen (no blood relation), who wants to take her away from the Palace and care for her.  Of course, that plan goes awry when Xu Chu Yue marries General Xue Yao

Although initially suspicious of Xu Chu Yue and her motives, Xue Yao falls head over heels for his adorable sleepless princess. And she for him. They join hands to investigate the cause of Xue Yao's brother's death, and in the process, Xu Chu Yue finds that with Xue Yao by her side, her nightmares go away and that he might just be the cure for all her ills...

Trailer:

First thoughts:

🐼: I've watched the first few episodes and can confirm that the chemistry between the two main leads, Hu Yi Xuan and Zheng Ye Cheng, is very good. (I haven't seen any dramas with Hu Yi Xuan as lead before, but I've had a soft spot for Zheng Ye Cheng ever since seeing him as Fu Jiu Yun in Love of Thousand Years - the man can act).  So far, there's a well balanced mix of comedy and drama (and familiar tropes aplenty) as the cool, indifferent General starts to melt into a puddle for his adorable minx of a Princess. From the trailer there does look like there will be angst ahead though. Might need to stock up on tissues?

Also love the playful ending theme song  小尾巴 ("Little Tail"), which sums up their interactions to a tee.
